Prof. Julian Hayes

Professor of Computational Mathematics · Otomas Academy

Linear Algebra, visualized in 2D and 3D motion.

PhD in Applied Mathematics, University of Edinburgh

About me

I'm Prof. Julian Hayes, and I've spent the better part of two decades trying to convince students that linear algebra isn't a wall of symbols — it's a set of moving pictures nobody bothered to show them. I teach computational mathematics at the university level, and I build Otomas' Linear Algebra course on the side because I got tired of watching bright students give up on the subject before it ever clicked.

I hold a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh, with a research background in numerical linear algebra and its applications to computer graphics and early machine learning systems.

Every lesson I record starts from a single question: what does this operation actually look like happening in space? If I can't animate it, I don't teach it yet.
